Although monsoon is one of the most popular seasons for bikers, it can be a dangerous prospect because of slick roads, poor visibility, and a multitude of other issues. There are a few things to keep in mind when riding your bike in the rain.
Why Start Early & Ride Safe?
Most accidents happen during the monsoon season, according to statistics. Riding in the monsoon can be a lot of fun if you know all the strategies. The first rains bring the lovely fragrance of wet and fresh mud, which we all enjoy, but they also bring the oil or coolant that has leaked and soaked on the road all year, making it more slippery and risky. The easiest approach to stay safe is to not ride too quickly or to wait 20-30 minutes before riding.
Keep a Safe Distance with a clear vision & Tight Grip
The next major issue during the monsoon is that visibility drops dramatically due to water drops on your visor and fog (if you wear spectacles, the fog issue will arise as soon as you take your visor down). When you combine all of these factors with a wet and slick road, panic or hard braking is a bad idea and can result in a nasty slip. So always leave adequate space between you and the vehicle in front of you to give yourself enough time to react, invest in good grippy tyres, and try to keep your visor and spectacles visor clear.
Control your inner child
Another tip is to control your inner child. Getting your bike through a puddle and splashing water all over yourself may sound fun, but it can be very dangerous on a bike. Given the state of our roads, you may not even know when a puddle turns into a pothole and becomes your worst nightmare. Avoiding puddles or slowing down when you can’t avoid them is the best option.
Check lights
Regularly check your blinkers/lights, which should be turned on whenever visibility is low, to ensure that you must be visible to all other drivers on the road. When riding in the rain, carry a cleaning cloth around to wipe down your visor, lights, and blinkers every time you stop.
Don’t forget Monsoon Gear
Finally, invest in a waterproof jacket, gloves, and boots, as you should always ride with all of your gear on. These are the essentials for every ride; a good helmet with a clear visor is also essential; put wax on the visor of the helmet to help the water drop down faster and boost visibility.
The most essential thing is to keep your bike in peak condition.
